Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions call for a public protest against the 2c per Dollar Tax. The demonstration is on Thursday 11 October 2018.
Section 59 of the Constitution says “Every person has the right to demonstrate and to present petitions, but these rights must be exercised peacefully”
Section 67(2) of the Constitution further says “every Zimbabwean citizen has the right –
(a) to form, to join and to participate in the activities of a political party or organization of their choice;
(d) to participate, individually or collectively, in gatherings or groups or in any other manner, in peaceful activities to influence, challenge or support the policies of the Government or any political or whatever cause.”
In view of the above clauses, we hope the Zimbabwean government through the Zimbabwe Republic Police will respect the Constitution and the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people and not try to block this demonstration.
