HAS ZIM PARLIAMENT FORGOTTEN MAT NORTH AND SOUTH AGAIN?

In June 2016 MIHR raised alarm over the exclusion of Matabeleland North and South from the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Rural and Urban Development public hearings for the Local Government Laws Amendment Bill. Later Parliament corrected the problem. Fast Foward March 2019 there is a schedule of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education circulating which is on public hearings on Education Amendment Bill and again Matabeleland North and South are excluded.

However, on this one the exclusion is surprising as the Matabeleland North Hearing is said to be at Nkulumane and the Matabeleland South one is at Mpopoma. Both of these areas are actually in Bulawayo.

  1. this is irresponsible. 3 meetings in Bulawayo over 2 day each one incurring costs and all having the combined effect of 1 meeting. This shouldn’t be allowed/ accepted. The provinces will be accounted for as cost elements yet they wouldn’t have benefited!
